Particularly moved by the loss of Mikis Theodorakis, the author Vassilis Vasilikos speaking in Athens 9.84 and in Eleftheria Koumantou and Eleonora Orfanidou He referred, among other things, to the universal contribution of the great composer to the nation and the homeland, as well as to the invaluable legacy he leaves behind.
"I am very moved by all this absolute justification of Mikis both in Greece and abroad. He was a really great personality, a great musician who wrote many other works which are pure works of classical music and not just the ones we usually hear from him. All this is a wealth that now lives in our country.
"People do not live forever, but their works remain and now they are a common property of our country which has always had a lead in Culture in relation to other European countries."
At the same time, he recalled moments of his collaboration with Mikis Theodorakis and Costas Gavras on the occasion of the movie "Z".
Mr. Vasilikos unfolded his background that during the Dictatorship and in the midst of surveillance by the regime of that time, they obtained through the actor and producer Jacques Peren from Theodorakis who was exiled in Zatouna, the permission to "dress" with his music the movie.
As he characteristically said, the music of the film was a composition of excerpts from different works of Mikis Theodorakis and in fact with a composition from… upside down, which a French composer adapted to the measures of the film, but always based on the musical motifs of Theodorakis.
