"On the occasion of today's World Museum Day, it is important to highlight their value as a valuable source for knowledge of the historical past and the evolution of societies, as well as an important factor in aesthetic cultivation. The cultural policy of governments, especially in recent decades, is, of course, far from reserving such a social role for Museums.
Common policy in all EU countries hands over the Museums to the mercy of all kinds of sponsors and business groups that supposedly undertake their support and promotion with the unpaid. It is a policy that subjugates the cultural heritage, not only to the ideological, but also to the direct economic interests of large business groups, whether in tourism or other economic sectors, such as the "digital economy", advertising, the real estate market, etc. .
In this logic, the transformation of the five largest state archeological museums into Legal Entities under Public Law, launched by the Archaeological Service, with independent administrative and financial management, is underway ", said the general secretary of the KKE Central Committee, Dimitris Koutsoumbas, for the World Museums.
As he points out, "this is a particularly negative development that will force museums to operate on business terms, to ensure their viability. This will result in the enormous wealth of their exhibits becoming the object of profitability of the masters of the digital economy and information technology in the name of their digitization and promotion, while their facilities will be rented to advertising companies and events of all kinds.
We are already seeing all this being applied in museums of contemporary art to the detriment of their scientific, research and pedagogical character.
The consequences of this policy will be immediately felt by the masses who will not be able to visit the museums due to the unbearable cost of their tickets, as is already happening at the archeological site of the Acropolis ".
And Mr. Koutsoumbas concludes: "Because the operation of museums and the management of our cultural heritage with a commodity logic is in complete contradiction with their role and destination, we unite our voice with the workers and scientists who express their opposition. in the conversion of museums into NPDD and we defend the right of all people to have unimpeded access to all the Museums of our country ".
