Students of the 3rd GEL Kozani collected, once again, more than 350.000 plastic caps, with which they acquired a wheelchair and donated it to the Kozani Nursing Home.
Coordinator in the voluntary action of students is the professor of Physical Education Costas Sketopoulos, who, speaking to Athens 9.84, stresses that “such actions in schools create active citizens, develop children's volunteerism, solidarity and environmental awareness. The children participate, the teachers's duty is to find other ways, besides books, to teach the children. To choose ways of education that really have an impact on children ".
"This effort has started in our school for 10 years," he explains Mr. Sketopoulos. "The action was started in order to inform students about the burden that the environment receives from the reckless use of plastics and human activities in general. In the beginning we created a huge construction from plastic caps, which, in fact, was awarded in a competition. Then we thought about getting wheelchairs for our fellow citizens who need them. It is the second wheelchair we manage to secure. The children collected more than 350.000 plastic caps, from all over the city, from houses, from cafes and restaurants and we gave them to one Association of Paraplegics in Giannitsa, who work with a company and gave us a wheelchair, which we offered to Kozani Nursing Home.
"The previous wheelchair was given to a student of our school, who needed it for his travels. The students became aware, mobilized and proved that most things are out of the books. "Children are sponges. We just have to change the way students are approached." Mr. Sketopoulos.
