The China Disease Control Officer said his country was formally considering mixed use of COVID-19 vaccines as a way to boost vaccination effectiveness.

Available data show that Chinese vaccines lag behind other vaccines, including Pfizer and Moderna, in terms of efficacy, but require less meticulous temperature control during storage.

The vaccines that are available now "do not have very high levels of protection," Gao Fu, director of the Chinese Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, told a conference in the Chinese city of Chengdu yesterday.

"Vaccination using vaccines from different technical lines is being considered," he said.
