On Monday, November 15, at 21.00 in the Stavros Niarchos Hall, at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), a unique film screening will take place.
The work of the composer and playwright Dimitris Kamarotou, Prometheus Bound of Aeschylus, translated by Nikos A. Panagiotopoulos and directed by Giannis Drakoularakou starring Amalia Moutousi, Konstantinos Avarikiotis, the mezzo-soprano Anna Pagkalou and the musicians Katerina Konstantourou and Christos Liatsos, a co-production by Stavros Ethkios EBE), is presented in a unique cinematic projection - capture of the performance.
Prometheus Bound by Dimitris Kamarotos was created in the conditions of the pandemic, in the context of the Hero Persons, of the thematic planning of the SNFCC for the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution. The show was played 5 times with simultaneous internet broadcast from the historical headquarters of EBE, the Vallianeio Megaron on Panepistimiou Street, reaching from there live on at least 18.000 screens.
The material of the screening that will take place at ASN is the cinematic recording of a selected performance, from those that were made and broadcast online in March 2021. The image and sound went through all the planned production stages after the first presentation and have the editing, the quality image and color and sound mixing that allow the project to be completed like a movie. After this special "first screening" in the Stavros Niarchos Hall, the work will be available on internet video, a high quality copy of the film that will be presented.

The cinematic screening of Prometheus Bound is realized thanks to the donation of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (ISN), just as the show itself in the spring of 2021 was realized with the donation of the ISN.

In the play, the entire text of Aeschylus in a new translation by Nikos A. Panagiotopoulos is presented in a dense rhythm of personalized narration. The protagonists Amalia Moutousi and Konstantinos Avarikiotis, the mezzo-soprano Anna Pagkalou and the solo musicians Katerina Konstantourou and Christos Liatsos, in the reading room of the National Library of Greece - in the historic Vallianio Megaro .

Note by Dimitris Kamarotos for the show:
"Amalia Moutousi and Konstantinos Avarikiotis, in an immersion in all aspects of the poetic material, undertake the faces of the work and Anna Pangalou the Dance. They use a score of musical indications that runs through the entire text and the music itself with a specific technique: the "sound masks", which differentiate the faces. They tell a rough and frenetic pace, a story that surrounds them. They want to reassure us but also to tell us about the wonderful and terrible things whose details only they know.
The actors, like two other characters from the drama, a woman and a man who are already in a state of confinement for an indefinite period of time are narrated, while their available time is running out. They are surrounded by musicians who supervise and support them. They tell us a testimony from a unique experience: some who were there in the same place before them, left their mark. There are books, indoor video projections, objects, handwritten excerpts, lyrics and shapes, notes of their own intertwined with the others left there. One of the inhabitants of the area, once, may have been a θέ Prometheus. They speak in his words about pain as a transported good, about the fire that penetrates us and the sky - full of stars - that looks at us. With pictures, with sounds, with music, they throw a bridge between the old house of books and us.
We went with a legend, the legend of Prometheus Bound, to the National Library of Greece on Panepistimiou Street. We were in the place where Athens sounds different and time is squeezing. We copied with our own means, this myth that became poetry by Aeschylus, that became a new literary work - translation by Nikos Panagiotopoulos and through all the successive illustrations, we make the music of meanings: we return to the myth the possibility of being told again now, in this space.
Someone says:
"Prometheus, everything happens far outside our house, in the place where the elements meet. However, she is in, close to your footsteps, in the echo of the typographic elements of an old National Library. There, scattered on the steep cliffs, your marks appear temporarily.
I have to tell you what I catch, you can hear whatever you catch. I think it's raining outside. "
