The many women in hip-hop who helped shape culture in the global phenomenon that is today, are praised in a special ABC News show entitled "Real Queens of Hip-Hop: The Women Who Changed The Game".
Narrated by Salt of the legendary rap band Salt-N-Pepa, the tribute includes an original rendition of MC Lyte's idol in music by the hit producer WondaGurl. Capturing the role of women in the birth and development of hip-hop, the show will include interviews with pioneers such as MC Sha-Rock and Roxanne Shanté, as well as current superstars such as Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion and City Girls, taking viewers on a journey through time highlighting the personal struggles and triumphs they have experienced in their careers.
With Queen Latifah, Monie Love, Da Brat, Lauryn Hill Missy Elliott, Eve, Trina, Nicki Minaj and other pivotal figures who have paved the way for women in the rap industry, "Real Queens of Hip-Hop" marks the ongoing ABC culture exploration, mentioned by Mary Nelson, Senior Vice President of Integrated Content Strategy at ABC News.
"I grew up listening to and loving the groundbreaking work of women emcees and was amazed at how much I learned from this tribute," she said.
"Real Queens of Hip-Hop: The Women Who Changed The Game" will premiere on ABC on October 19.
