The show is based on songs recorded in the 19th century and are associated with corresponding folk customs that follow the annual cycle of holidays and the course of adulthood as depicted in popular tradition. From the customs of the butterfly, the cradle, the vulture, the wedding to the tender lullaby and the heartbreaking Doom of the Virgin.
It's about series of works by Martha Mavroidi exclusively for voices, which use traditional songs as raw material, and process lyrics, melodies and patterns, creating a new texture music. The works assimilate melodic and poetic material from traditional monophonic songs, creating a new polyphony which is inspired by the locality of traditional music, combining it with modern harmony.
In the show, the female vocal ensemble chórеs of Marina Satti meet with the vocal quartet Jasmine. The collaboration of the two ensembles explores the alternation between the large vocal ensemble and the vocal quartet, between a choir and an orchestra of voices, but also the confrontation between a song and an orchestral part in vocal performance.
