So far, the image reflected in the traffic and turnover of restaurants in Attica is disappointing, despite the large number of tourists in our country. The first data, according to the president of the Attica Restaurants Association Ioannis Daveronis, show a drop ranging from 15% -20%, in traffic and turnover, always compared to the corresponding period last year.
It is also noteworthy that the biggest drop is recorded in restaurants in the center of Athens, especially on days from Monday to Friday. Only the beach restaurants are saved, mainly due to the season.
Restaurant owners, according to Mr. Daveronis, always have a number of other problems to deal with.
The state aid for the rents of their shops stopped at the end of June, with the result that the majority could not afford to pay them all this time. "The biggest problems are identified in the restaurants of the center, as rents are very high and the turnover has fallen at this time", stressed at 9.84 the president of the Attica Restaurants Association, Ioannis Daveronis.
Also, most coffee shop and restaurant shopkeepers have trouble finding waiters. This is because the profession has been described in the labor market as "moving sand", as in the previous long period of quarantine and closed restaurants for months, those who had gone on suspension received from the government as aid the amount of 534 euros per month.
"Most have turned elsewhere in the job market. It is clear that those who worked in cafes and restaurants were financially ruined having to meet obligations and loans every month. The rest preferred to choose for work cafes and restaurants on islands, based on the fact that the monthly salary is much higher and also earn much more than the daily "tips", added Mr. Ioannis Daveronis.
