The Prime Minister K. Mitsotakis addressed a call to the citizens to overcome their suspensions and to be vaccinated. On Friday morning, the Prime Minister visited the village of Spili in Rethymno, where a mobile vaccination unit is already operating, and talked to the residents, the Mayor and the local bodies about the progress of the vaccinations but also about the alert that exists these hot days. not only for the protection of civilians but also for the prevention of fires.
The Prime Minister called on the people of Crete to hurry and get vaccinated. "From the bottom of my heart and as a Cretan I want to ask you, overcome your inhibitions, overcome your phobias, and in any way, either in the vaccination centers through the electronic platform, or through the mobile units, you who have not been vaccinated, hurry to be vaccinated "You protect, above all, yourself, your families, but you also contribute to the great national effort that we are making to finally end the nightmare of the pandemic," he said characteristically.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis also spoke about the great work done by the mobile vaccination units. "I am just happy that the response from the people is so warm. It is a given that especially here in Crete we have to increase the vaccination rates even more. I know that a very important effort is being made by all the institutions, by the Region, by the Municipalities, by the medical world, so that we can convince our fellow Cretans, who are still thinking of getting vaccinated. The great value of the mobile units is that we go to the citizens ourselves, instead of asking the citizens to come to the vaccination centers ", the Prime Minister noted, talking about the benefits from the operation of the mobile unit but also the strengthening of the Health Center in Cave.
Mr. Mitsotakis also referred to the data from the local hospital, which show that those who are seriously ill are unvaccinated: "I had the opportunity to talk a little with our excellent doctors. I was told that from Venizelio (Heraklion General Hospital) all the last intubations - and this is the story we hear from all over the country - our fellow citizens who are being intubated today are all unvaccinated. Well, let people realize that people who may have reservations, coronavirus is very dangerous for all ages and for younger ages. The vaccine is safe, it has practically no side effects, everyone should hurry to be vaccinated ", he stressed.
The Prime Minister visited the mobile vaccination unit and talked to the medical staff, which consists of a physician, an anesthesiologist and three nurses. In the last month, thanks to the operation of mobile units, there is an increase in citizen participation in the vaccination program against COVID-19 in the Region of Crete.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis also referred to the difficult conditions, due to the upcoming heat wave as well as the readiness to deal with its effects and prevent fires. Among other things, he noted that this year the possibility of prevention and firefighting has been strengthened with Air Tractor type aircraft "which on high-risk days fly full over difficult areas", precautionarily, with a range of up to 5 hours, and have the ability to attack immediately a new outbreak as soon as they locate it.
Speaking about the prospects of Crete, Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed the great development opportunities created through the new NSRF and the Recovery Fund and called on local government actors to contribute to their development. He made special reference to the North Road Axis.
"Let me say a word even about the Regional Governor and the Mayor, which I think has its value since I am here in Crete today, once again. Yesterday, the European Commission approved the new NSRF 2021-2026, we were the first European country to receive the approval. We have significantly increased resources for all the Regions, including the Region of Crete and we will now have the opportunity to work with the Region, with the Municipalities, so that we can be sure that the money we have at our disposal will be disbursed for the benefit of all citizens. And of course let me say one more thing: among the financial tools that we have, of course, is the Recovery Fund. A part of the resources of the Recovery Fund will be allocated for the construction of the North Road Axis. For the first time this project has full funding and full study maturity, it was a personal commitment of mine towards our Cretan fellow citizens. "This road will be completed and Crete will finally have a state-of-the-art, safe, environmentally friendly road so that it can be safely led to new decades of prosperity," said the Prime Minister.
"The President's visit today to Santa Claus sends the message that we all need to get vaccinated so that we can get out of this pandemic. At the same time, it is particularly important that the first program approved by the European Commission is the Greek program (NSRF), which we must all contribute so that Municipalities and Regions can absorb resources, "said the Governor of Crete Stavros Arnaoutakis.
"In four local communities, in four days, 8% of our people, of the permanent population, were vaccinated," said the Mayor of Agios Vassilios, Ioannis Tatarakis, calling for participation in the vaccinations. "Only then will we get our lives back, only then will we enter into a new normalcy," he said.
Immediately afterwards, the Prime Minister visited the City Hall where he met with the Mayor of Agios Vassilios Ioannis Tatarakis and the Metropolitan of Lampi, Syvritos and Sfakion, Irineos.
The Prime Minister was received by the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and MP of Rethymno of ND, Giannis Kefalogiannis, the General Secretary of Primary Health Care Marios Themistokleous, the Regional Governor of Crete Stavros Arnaoutakis D, Elefis Of Crete Lena Borboudaki, the Deputy Governor of the 7th CRC of Crete Dimitris Agapiou, the Head of Primary Health of Rethymno Konstantinos Hliveros and the Director of the Health Center of Spilia Maria Antonopoulou
Then Mr. Mitsotakis went to Heraklion, where he participated in a meeting at PAGNI with the commander and deputy commanders of the 7th RAE, the administrations of PAGNI and Venizelio, the directors of Medical Services and the coordinating directors Covid-19 of the two hospitals, with the aim of promoting the "Freedom" operation.
Mr. Mitsotakis, upon entering the hospital, spoke with patients who wanted to welcome him, while he had the opportunity to urge them not to hesitate to be vaccinated, repeating the central message of his visit "we are protected, we are vaccinated, we come out winners".
