The most favorite festival of the city may, this time, not fill the whole Technopolis as it used to in other years, but he will make sure to get everywhere - wherever you are! - through its digital networks: the his new YouTube channel and Facebook page. What will we hear this year? 14 bands from Greece and abroad, leading international artists at their best, different and unexpected types of jazz, Crossovers repertoire, while the honorary one has - as always - the home scene since they have a special place in the program the winners who emerged last year from competition for Greek entries.
But because music has the first say, ladies & gents, here it is line-up of 20th Athens Technopolis Jazz Festival. Enjoy!
He undertakes the start of this year's festival the quartet of Macumba From Cyprus and their explosive compositions that - albeit from afar - will take us across the Atlantic with sounds reminiscent of Latin America. The following are Poles EABS (acronym for Electro-Acoustic Beat Sessions) with their own particular interpretation of jazz, a renegotiation of the classics of the genre combined with modern ones urban Sounds, a "reconstruction through deconstruction" - as they themselves state. Then, the musical collaboration of the accordionist Roman Zabelov with the drummer and multi-organist Jan Silk or -at the world- the Zabelov Group from the Czech Republic they will seduce us with them cinematic compositions while a little later the Botticelli Babywith a mix of extremely interesting gypsy jazz punk from Germany, have given one and only promise: to wake us up! The first day of this year's Athens Technopolis Jazz Festival closes with headliner award-winning Greek composer and drummer Billy Pod –According to Vassilis Podaras- with him its multifaceted, full and "healing" sound.
Friday's first appearance may be from Sweden, but defies musical boundaries. The reason for the atmospheric saxophonist Martin Wirén and the project staff Bear Garden. The following follows experimental, rather mysterious music of composer, pianist and researcher Anna Stereopoulou, which will give the baton to one of its most interesting bands afro-beat scene coming (and yet!) from the North: The KutiMangoes by Denmark! The closing of the night is undertaken by multitasking and now a favorite saxophonist of the festival, the one and only Dimitris Tsakas with his band.
On its third and final day, the ATJF opens with them Federica Lorusso Trio from Netherlands, a project born in 2018 led by Italian pianist Federica Lorusso and characterized by large doses energy and groove, a combination of "traditional" post-bop with innovative elements. Then new breath will blow from it Luxembourg with their trio Dock in Absolute and their alternating music that balances between progressive jazz, The classical music and rock, proving convincingly that it has hundreds of thousands of stories to tell…
Immediately after, the Sokratis Votskos QuartetThe unique Greek band with a contract in legendary Jazzman Records, invites us to "sketch the unknown" through a musical journey to modern jazz, blues references, Greek and Balkan sounds. On the digital stage of the festival follows one of the most important modern jazz trumpeters, American Marquis hill, who along with four outstanding musicians, covers his first album New Gospel and presents it to us in a brand new version. The curtain of this year's Athens Technopolis Jazz Festival closes Antoine Karacostas Trio who will present us the lyrical personal compositions of the Greek-French pianist, a conversation of hers modern jazz of New York and the Middle East to greek traditional music and rebetiko.
