Online opening curtain for the Social Circus of Athens
The Social Circus of Athens is an initiative that uses circus techniques to promote talent, the arts, teamwork, and self-discipline in young people of Greek, immigrant, and refugee descent.
The Social Circus Athens is implemented by ANASA Center for African Art and Culture, aimed at communication and connection between locals and refugees in its areas Kerameikos, Kolonos, Metaxourgeio, but also more widely.
The online launch of the action takes place with an online live lab on Sunday 18 April at 12.00. Participation is free.
"The program started in 2018 and today is implemented under the umbrella of co-Athens", he will tell Athens 9.84, Natasha Handa - Martin member of the ANASA Center for African Arts and Cultures. "Currently, it is held online and so there is the possibility for more participants outside the areas where we operate. There will be video lessons on juggling, acrobatics, rhythm on the body, making juggling toys from cheap materials, and much more. At the end of May, and if the gatherings have been allowed, there will be a live lesson and presentation ".
What is a social circus?
"This movement of the social circus has to do with the development of skills, teamwork, discipline and entertainment for young people and especially young people who are outside the mainstream society. The tools of the social circus have been used for the integration and grouping of people in many countries of Northern Europe but also in Africa and South America, where it has been shown that young people in a vulnerable state restore their physical and mental balance with circus techniques and at the same time cultivate new skills, which offer them a way out and a professional orientation in the field of entertainment. This is what we are trying to do in the neighborhoods of Athens, we have also gone to refugee and immigrant structures, while our plans are to expand the program to other areas and to other ages or population groups. ", points out Ms. Handa - Martin.
