The "green light" was given at dawn by the municipal council of Thessaloniki regarding the announcement of an international architectural competition for the renovation of the square and the axis of Aristotle, but also for the sculptural work of art entitled "METEORON", which will decorate the green space opposite the town hall.
The architectural competition for the preliminary design of Aristotle was approved by a large majority, without any negative votes and ten blank.
According to what the administration of the municipality of Thessaloniki presented for the square and the axis of Aristotle, the goal is to emerge a design that highlights the space as a strong landmark and at the same time is in harmony with the special characteristics of the area.
At the same time, the municipal council approved the placement of "METEORON" in an area opposite the town hall. The sculpture is a work of the internationally renowned painter and sculptor Kostis Georgiou. The sculptural composition will consist of 12 figures cast in aluminum and painted in red of high durability, while the work will be placed on a marble base, designed by the sculptor himself.
The dimensions of the sculpture in its full development will be 1.40 × 1.40 meters (length - width) and its final height together with the base will be about 10 - 11 meters.
"Thessaloniki deserves and deserves new landmarks, places of artistic interest that will capture the modern creation of its people, places that will pique the interest of the visitor and will become artistic stimuli through everyday life," said Thessaloniki Mayor Konstantinos Zervas.
