“The next 10 days are extremely difficult and crucial to the course of the pandemic in our country,” stated in Parliament this morning Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. He said that we should all be very careful and called opposition parties to make suggestions to better fight the virus.

“The government will inform the national delegation and all Greeks about the situation and I expect all participants to respect the urgency of the situation,” Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said, while briefing the plenary on the situation regarding the pandemic in Greece.
“Our doctors, our nurses, the citizens that are ill, the last thing they would expect to hear from us is another pointless quarrel. Whether we rise to the occasion depends on all of us,” the prime minister added.

The Greek government announced on Wednesday a nationwide curfew that will come into effect on Friday, in a bid to stem the continuing rise in infections and deaths.
Deputy Civil Protection Minister Nikos Hardalias said the curfew will apply from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. and will only exclude people who need to leave the house for work, health reasons or a short walk with a pet.

The restrictions came after Greek health authorities announced a record-breaking 43 new deaths on Wednesday and 2,752 new infections, 635 of which were detected in the region of Attica and 777 in Thessaloniki.
Those who want to leave their home after 9 p.m. will have to send an SMS to 13033, or have a document from their employer.

There are currently 530 active cases of SARS-CoV-2 infections among police officers, of which 60% are located in northern Greece and particularly in Thessaloniki, Drama, Alexandroupolis and Kilkis, according to Hellenic Police (ELAS) data.
Among those infected, two police officers from Kilkis have been intubated.
Another 20% of the cases are located in police services in the region of Attica, while the rest are dispersed in several regions of the country.

Supermarkets will not be open this coming Sunday (as announced earlier this week) and will shut down at 8.30 pm starting Monday.
