Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim expressed dismay that Greece has asked for the mediation of the EU, after a Turkish court decision not to permit the release of the two men who are charged with entering a prohibited military zone.
“It has become a habit for Greece to take any issue it has with Turkey to the EU to ask for its support,” he said. “Our relationship with the EU will neither advance nor deteriorate because of such actions,” he added.
Turkey has reserved the area from Skyros, Psara and Evoia islands for a new NAVTEX for live fire exercise, between March 7th and April 30th.
The United States recognizes the right of the Republic of Cyprus to develop its resources in its Exclusive Economic Zone”, said a State Department Spokesperson, adding that the US policy on Cyprus’s EEZ is longstanding and has not changed.
He also noted that as a matter of principle, the United States supports the sovereignty of the countries in the region, including Greece and Turkey.
